Tony Robbins Money: Master the Game
Tony Robbins brings to us the wisdom and insight from the best of the best when it comes to money. From Ray Dalio who manages the world’s largest hedge fund valued at $160 Billion to Sir John Templeton who made his billion dollar fortune during the great depression when the economy was at its worst ever. Tony Robbins interviews these money moguls and 48 others of the greatest financial minds and brings it to the us. How great is that?
Learning to manage your money is one of the most important things you can learn to do in life. In today’s world people seem to be more afraid to invest and to save and much too eager to spend their money as soon as it comes in. Money makes a good servant but a really bad master. If you don’t master money it will master you.
Now some might say “Money isn’t everything” or “what about ‘Money is the root of all evil’?” I want to get this out of the way, money does matter! On some level it has to matter to everyone. Without any money you can’t feed yourself these days. The phrase “money is the root of all evil” is badly misquoted and out of context. This phrase actually comes from the Bible in 1st Timothy 6:10 where “The love of money [above all else] is the root of all kinds of evil.” Think about it, having a lot of money only amplifies the character that is already there. Money doesn’t change people. A mean person just has more to be mean with and a generous person on the contrary has more to give. But let’s move on…
Let’s face it, many of us have a hard time understanding the wording that comes with our financial statements such as arbitrage, liquidity, securitization and underwriting. Tony clears this up brilliantly! One of his strengths is taking something really complicated and making it simple for everyone to understand.
Now, I must say if you’re a risk-taker and saving your money and putting it into index funds is boring, stick with me. I personally believe that the best place to invest your money is back into your own business. However, all of the world’s most successful people are invested in the stock markets in one way or another. If they are why aren’t you? The fact is we can’t beat the pros at their own game with lightning fast trading and complex prediction algorithms. So we play a different game. The long game.
In this book, Tony Robbins shares with us the secret of Ray Dalio’s success, with only losing money 3 times in the last 40 years and getting a return much better than the market over those years. The answer is surprisingly simple and easy to follow along with. The perfect balance of risk and growth and the final goal: residual income.
